Top 20 Tips For The Healthiest Smoothies

There various tips and hacks that I have learned over the course of a long time already while I’m on the process of concocting my smoothies. For this article, I managed to compile 20 of my most frequently used and most effective tricks and tips that will also hopefully help you in the long run.
Using various types of vegetables and fruits can aid in helping you obtain a good amount of health benefits and nutrients that your body needs to stay fit. To help make it easier for me, I tend to go for fruits and vegetables that are currently in season. In case you want to have some green smoothies, just make sure to “rotate” the use of the green ingredients every couple of days or weeks. This will help you stay excited every time you drink your smoothie.

2.Always go for fresh ingredients when you can.
In terms of nutritional value and flavor, you can never go wrong in using fresh ingredients and juice. As much as possible, make sure to incorporate organic ingredients for your smoothies. Aside from boosting the nutritional value of your drink and improving the overall flavor of this treat, this will help you avoid ingesting pesticides in the long run.

3.Swap water for some tea varieties.
You may use tea in place of juice, milk, or water as your base for the smoothie. Depending on the nutritional goal you want to obtain for the long haul, you may choose the appropriate tea base for your smoothie. If you’re aiming to shed off some pounds, you may go for a green tea base. If you are aiming for relaxation, chamomile tea base is a good choice. To help me save time and resources for the week, I prepare a large batch of tea base ahead of time and just get some tea from my large pot when I need to use this base drink.

4.Use alternative means to sweeten your smoothies.
There are various fruits and berries that you may use as sweeteners. Dates are good substitutes. To prepare them before smoothie creation, just remove their pits and soak them in water for at least one hour before you blend them. If you are not a big fan of dates, using other sweeteners like stevia, syrup, and honey are also good choices.

During the colder parts of the year, there is a tendency of smoothies not being as sweet as they are when you concoct the same mixture during the warmer months. For these cases, you may substitute fruit juice for water as your smoothie base.
5.Combine fresh juice and smoothies into one healthy drink.
Speaking of fruit juice, you may also use juiced up fruits and/or vegetables as base for your smoothies. Because there are various fruits and vegetables that you can readily use for juicing, you can expect an endless possibilities and combinations.

6.Add some Kefir for a boost of nutritional value for your drink.
Kefir is a combination of young Thai coconut’s water and milk. Because of the combination, this has a similar probiotic effect as yogurt, thus aiding in assimilating nutrients and improving digestion.

7.Experiment with some spices.
Aside from adding valuable nutrients into the mix, these can help enhance the flavor of your drink as well. Nutmeg, ginger, cayenne pepper, and cinnamon are some basic spices that you can initially try out.

8.Protein can help you go a long way.
If you are currently on a body-building program, adding protein powder can help bulk up those muscles. I’m currently using Sun Warrior for most of my mixes right now.

9.Do not be afraid to add in some fats in your smoothies.
Contrary to popular belief, adding some fat into your food and drink can help promote better weight loss potential. On top of that, this can help you improve your overall body functions by providing additional “slow-burning” fuel for your body. Some good fats to add in your smoothies include cream, avocado, hemp oil, flax, and coconut.

10.Salt is not always a bad ingredient to incorporate in your drinks.
Just make sure that the salt is of high quality and you can never go wrong. Also, keep in mind that moderation should still be considered, especially with sodium-laden ingredients. Some options you may want to go for includes Redmond salt, Himalayan Pink salt, and Celtic Sea salt.

11.Go for some nice superfoods along the way.
These may be considered as some parts of the smoothie’s core, so choose wisely. Some of the great superfoods that you may want to incorporate in your drink are acai, spirulina, hemp protein, hemp seeds, coconut oil, aloe vera, bee pollen, goji berries, cacao, and maca.
12.Seeds can amp up the nutritional and satiety potentials of your drink.
If you still feel a bit hesitant to blend in some seeds in your smoothie, go with the basics first. Seeds like chia, hemp, and flax are good starting points. If you will use chia seeds, make sure to soak them in water for an hour or so first. This will help create a gel-like consistency around the seed that you can use to improve the overall texture of your drink.

13.Improve the medicinal capacities of your smoothie by including herbs into the mix.
Adding some herbs like Rhodiola, Astragalus, and Ginseng can not only add an interesting depth of flavor for your smoothie but can also enhance the medicinal value of the drink.

14.Go for numerous base choices for more variety.

Do not go careless in considering the best base for your ingredient combinations. As much as possible, you have to use high-quality spring or filtered water, fresh juice, fresh milk, coconut water, coconut milk, or almond milk. One of my preferred bases is young Thai coconut water. The sweetness level is just right for me. At the same time, this helps bring in more electrolytes for my body.

15.Add some greens for a quick hunger fix.
Aside from using fresh greens, I also use Green Superfood powders. Some of my personal favorites are Ormus Supergreens, Sun Warrior, Vitamineral Green, and Boku. This is especially helpful when I am in a hurry to prepare my drink. These are also nice to use during winter time when organic greens are much harder to find.

16.Mushroom powder is an interesting addition to the smoothie combination.
I love using mushroom powders for my mix. Maitake, Cordyceps, and Reishi are just some of those I add in my smoothies. I just open a couple of capsules and place the powder in the smoothie then I’m good to go.

17.Get creative with your ice cubes.
Water is not the only choice here. On some days that I want an interesting twist to my chilled smoothies, I simply pop in some ice cubes made from coconut water. Like the typical coconut water, these ice cubes do not only add some flavor but also bring in valuable nutrients likes electrolytes, potassium, and magnesium.

18.Banana cubes are also a great hit as a smoothie staple.

As a fundamental addition to most smoothies, this helps you obtain a smooth texture for your drink. To prepare some, I just peel some ripe bananas and slice them into small cubes. I then place the cubes in a large Ziploc container or bag before freezing. Preparing 5 or 6 bananas in this manner will help you go a long way already.

19.If you’re giving your kids some smoothies, pay attention to the color and texture.
Kids are indeed picky eaters. For starters, identify what they like in a drink and use that as a base for the smoothie. Gradually introduce fruits and greens into their mix as they get used to the taste and the texture.

20.Just enjoy the smoothie ride!
If you are preparing smoothies for your family or friends, encourage them to be involved in the creation of the mix. Don’t forget to have some fun while you’re all at it. Everything will be worthwhile because of that.

These are just of the tricks of the trade that I have come to learn over time. I have tweaked some of these to fit my preferences and my lifestyle. In the same way, you can experiment with the smoothies and come up with your personalized hacks as well.
